On the rooftop of CashLabs Gallery in Decentraland during Metaverse Fashion Week, SHOWstudio is organizing a film festival. With a daily selection that cuts across varying themes, these fashion films showcase standout work from recent years. Because there is no program or schedule offered either on the virtual rooftop itself or on one of the partner websites, any avatar visitor teleporting into the coordinates should remain open to the potential for surprise.
The program strand Experimental is a particularly delightful experience of aesthetic stimulation. Visual feasts of color and image formats, from animation to videotape, are complemented by different genres of music, from hiphop to techno to classical accordion. All of these works do as much for the looks displayed as they do for the art of cinema.
The highlight of the selection is less an experimental film and more a comedic narrative. The contribution by KIDSUPER sees its quirky protagonists in a mad dash to throw the greatest party of the year in New York City – both so they can pay their rent and also to draw attention to their brand. Of course madcap antics ensue, while the vitality and spontaneity of their garments shine forth on a number of different body types. This and the other films in the program are a breath of fresh air. If Metaverse Fashion Week happens again next year, this exciting festival might deserve more central placement.
