In a recent Twitter post RTFKT announced that they won Best Fashion NFT Project at the 2nd Annual NFT Awards at NFT.NYC. This is the second year in a row that RTFKT has won this award. The full list of winners can be found on the OpenSea blog.
The NFT Awards are for the most part structured like audience awards. Community members are able to nominate across many categories and to vote for all awards that require subjective opinions. Winners of certain categories were determined by analysing volume data and transactions on OpenSea, which sponsored the NFT Awards along with APENFT and NFT.Kred.
It seems puzzling that OpenSea won the award for Best NFT Marketplace, given that they are the title sponsors of the NFT Awards. Regardless of the fact that the community votes on these awards, it is a clear conflict of interest for the platform to not remove themselves from consideration. The optics of this appear either cynical or clumsy.
According to the NFT.NYC site, this year 18,456 total votes were received. RTFKT has always been known for their strong and fiercely loyal community, so it comes as no surprise that they are dominating this award category. As the digital fashion space matures they will likely face much more competition, just as there will likely be a digital fashion award to challenge the relevance of this one at the NFT Awards at NFT.NYC.
