Shanghai Fashion Week, China's premier fashion showcase, has partnered with lifestyle platform Xiaohongshu on the digital fashion show Design Verse. Nine Chinese designers are releasing 20 digital designs for the show while also selling 3,000 virtual fashion items on Xiaohongshu.

Chen Peng, the designer behind the costumes at the 2022 Beijing Olympics opening ceremony, released 10 virtual mermaid-inspired ensembles that sold out immediately. All garments are being sold for fiat since cryptocurrency has been banned in China. Pieces range in price from RMB 699 to RMB 3,999 ($106-610 USD).

Digital fashion has become a trend on Xiaohongshu, with both real and virtual influencers showcasing the latest digital clothing and accessories. The topic #digitalfashion has amassed over 5.6 million views on Xiaohongshu, while dozens of designers and digital fashion brands have already released their works on the platform.

Shanghai Fashion Week was postponed for the second year in a row because of the new Covid-19 outbreak. Design Verse runs from 15-28 April.
